The hospital also has a long history of conducting comprehensive and vision centre based eye care camps in the district. With the increasing people’s participation in accessing eye care services of the hospital, resulting in demand for services at local level creating an urgency to establish a system which could act as an immediate redressal mechanism for patients intercepted through direct engagement camps and primary eye care centres.
At present almost 18% share of patients are visiting yearly at the base hospital at Siliguri, are from Cooch Behar district. 5% of these patients are intercepted locally and reffered to the hospital at Siliguri resulting in also delay in treatment by atleast 2-3 days including labour for mitigating the physical distance and leaving a day job for assisting family or coming themselves for treatment. This time is more for patients who had to resort to the hospital without having intercepted or has to resort to treatment due to increasing condition of the eye.
