Often we hear that the hospital claims to be the best eye hospital in the region but do the founding members themselves ever visit for their treatment!
Lion Parmeshwar Lal Kedia one of our founding members and hospital past Chairman underwent cataract surgery yesterday at Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital. A Chartered Accountant by profession Sir Lion PL Kedia came to Siliguri in the year 1975 from Bhagalpur, Bihar. As he offered financial services, his urge to cater to the needy made him join Lions Club in the early 1970s.
With equally motivated peers they founded Lions Club of Siliguri Greater in 1980 and eventually laid the foundation of the hospital in 1981 with the vision of creating a centre of excellence that could make quality, affordable eye care accessible to all in North Bengal and Sikkim.
He says, "there was never a day when we don't discuss about the welfare of the hospital. Lionism is synonymous to service which is not only my passion but, is the principle motivation that gives my life meaning and flows in my blood".
While discussing on why he came to the hospital when he could have even gone to somewhere abroad, he added, "We created this hospital with a world class infrastructure and the best health care professionals in India. And we give services to every person irrespective from where he is coming from as our own. Where would I get such service and heart anywhere in the world".
He was at the hospital with his wife Smt. Manju Kedia and undergoes comprehensive eye check-up every year at the hospital.
